We are often inundated with too much information on what superfoods to eat and what teas to drink and what to avoid. With so many schools of thought, its only natural that one gets confused.
Here's the lowdown on the few thing's you should focus on, if you plan on getting healthier this year -
Charcoal is very good at eliminating gas, bloating and nipping problems of food poisoning in the bud. Activated charcoal can be added to smoothies, juices and teas to help fight the bloat, flatten that belly and remove any toxins that you may have ingested.
However, people on heavy medication should speak to their doctors before taking anything with charcoal because it may dilute or reduce the efficacy of the medicines.
The TIME magazine published a cover story last year on how we’ve given fat a bad rap for nothing. Eating the right kind of fat is extremely important for weight loss, brain function and to promote recovery from injury and post strenuous exercise.
A quick rule of thumb is to avoid any vegetable oils and use ghee, butter and coconut oil instead. Vegetable oils have low boiling points and tend to become denatured and turn carcinogenicat high temperature.
Fasting is deeply rooted in our religious and traditional customs. It turns out that there is some truth to the health benefits of fasting. Intermittent fasting also called IF is employed by athletes, doctors and wellness enthusiasts where they eat for a 8 hour feeding window and starve for 16 hours. Done regularly and correctly, this method can help lose unwanted pounds, promote better health, boost brain function and help with auto-immune issues. Fasting regularly gives your digestive system a break and allows your body to heal and recover. However, diabetics, heart patients and others suffering from chronic ailments should speak to physicians for clearance before attempting this.
Smoothies were hot in 2014 but the last year has seen an increase in smoothie bowl sales over the world. This trend gives you your daily allowance of fruits, veggies, immune boosting vitamins, cholesterol busting fibre and healthy antioxidants that help fight inflammation and free radicals.
Quite literally, the smoothie bowl is your smoothie in a bowl but you can incorporate several superfoods, vitamins, fruits and make it look palatable.
These are often too pretty to eat and are normally eaten at breakfast and are meals by themselves.
Ageing gracefully is absolutely wonderful and a lot of women today are managing to pull it off. People in their 40s have started taking care of their bodies and what they consume but what they all swear by is a diligent yoga practice. Practicing inversions and doing upside down yoga is better than expensive facials and creams and gives you that gorgeous healthy glow on your face. A lot of studios in india have introduced it as a workout form and if you aren't petrified you should definitely give it a shot.
